A Message From The President
A Fresh Start for 2021
The NSBA Youth officers and directors have had a productive start to 2021. We are continuing our designated service project, "Operation Gratitude" throughout this year. For those unfamiliar, Operation Gratitude sends 300,000+ individually-addressed care packages to soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen deployed overseas, to their children left behind and to first responders, new recruits, veterans, Wounded Heroes and their caregivers. Each package contains snacks, hygiene products, entertainment and handmade items, as well as personal letters of support.
Through collection drives, letter writing campaigns, craft projects and care package assembly events, Operation Gratitude provides civilians anywhere in America a way to say "Thank You" through active, hands-on volunteerism. Several letter collections have been set up at weekend horse shows, as well as officer and directors' home barns.
In addition, we have connected with Operation Gratitude to set up a direct donation option for a sock drive through the NSBA Foundation's Amazon Smile Charity List. Physical sock collections will take place at both the A Sudden Impulse Futurity in Ocala, Florida, in April, and the NSBA World Championship Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this August.
Beyond the Operation Gratitude project, we have an additional goal of focusing on expanding outreach to new youth communities. With this in mind, we have organized several youth socials and a movie night at the WEC Ocala facility throughout the Winter Spectacular Series that was held January-March.
Look for the Benefit Saddle Auction for a chance to win a custom Harris Saddle with proceeds benefiting the newly announced Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship at the A Sudden Impulse Futurity in April. This fund will benefit the recipient Youth of the Year Award, which is presented annually by the NSBA Foundation to a youth who has gone above and beyond to exhibit exemplary character in helping others through community service. The formation of this scholarship will enrich the future of the equine industry by providing educational opportunities to the next generation and rewarding community service, academics and achievement.
As we look forward to the 2021 NSBA World Championship Show, we plan on continuing the Youth Team Tournament. Please join us on Friday, August 13, for our draw party and the NSBA Youth Annual Meeting and Officer Election.

Youth of the Year
The Youth of the Year Award recognizes youth who demonstrate dedication through volunteer work for a worthy cause. The award is designed to reward NSBYA members who actively participate in a service project. Their service can be for an equine or a local community organization. The purpose is to promote and celebrate service work in our youth.
Anyone can fill out the application and the award is open for any youth member of NSBA. The winner will receive recognition at the NSBA Honors Banquet, a night that celebrates the 2021 Hall of Fame and Special Award winners and a spotlight in The Way To Go magazine. As well, the NSBA Foundation will make a donation in the winner's name to a charity of their choosing. Beginning in 2021, the recipient of the NSBA Youth of the Year Award will also receive the Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship.
Complete applications and references can be sent to the NSBA Office or emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Deadline for submission is June 1, 2021.

Ride into the Future with Smart Points
NSBA rewards youth members for their participation in NSBA programs, and encourages them to become lifelong learners, through the Smart Points program.
Each NSBA point that the youth rider earns, in a qualifying class will earn a money value, including Novice youth and walk-trot classes.
Youth riders must have an NSBA membership, enroll in the Smart Points program, and either ride a NSBA Stallion Incentive Fund (SIF) Licensed horse, or register their horse into the Smart Points program, in order to earn Smart Points money. The name on the Smart Points enrollment and NSBA membership must be exactly the same.
Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship
This April, the National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) in support of the NSBA Foundation announced the conception of the Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship.
