What is the Licensing program?
NSBA introduced the new Stallion Incentive Fund (SIF) Licensing program beginning in January, 2008 for horses of all ages. All licensed horses are eligible to earn money for NSBA points earned in dual approved type classes. Payout for the dual approved points will be based on the purse of the donated and sold SIF sires for the competition year. Payout for 2008 was $121.38 per point. The Stallion Nominator will receive 10% of the earnings of offspring in the Dual Approved payout. The Foal nominator will receive 10% and the owner at the time of competition will receive 80% of the earnings in Dual Approved payout. How do I know if my horse is eligible to be licensed? To be licensed, a horse must be sired by a stallion that sold in the NSBA Stallion Incentive Fund the year the licensed horse foaled. Eligible sires from 2001-2010 are listed on the NSBA website, nsba.com under Stallion Incentive Fund, Licensing. Eligible stallions before this date may be checked by calling the NSBA office at 847-623-6722. Does my horse need to be licensed to show in NSBA dual approved classes? NO! To show in NSBA programs both the owner and exhibitor need to be NSBA members. The horse does not need to be licensed. The license provides the eligibility to earn money for the NSBA points. Does my horse need to be licensed to show in the SIF classes? YES! A set of NSBA SIF classes are offered at shows regionally throughout the United States beginning in July. Only LICENSED horses sired by a sold stallion in the competition year are eligible to show. The SIF classes are: 2-year old Open Western Pleasure $1000 added, 3-year old Non-Pro Western Pleasure $500 added and 3-year old Open Hunter Under Saddle $1000 added. If I do not license my weanling, can I still license it later? Yes, horses sired by eligible stallions may be licensed for a fee of $200 until the year 2011. Horses who are by eligible sires can be licensed by December 15 of their weanling year for $100 and by December 31 of their yearling year for $200. Horses may be licensed as two year olds and older for $200 until 12/31/11. Beginning 1/1/12, it will cost $600 to license horses after their yearling year. |
