Breeders Championship Futurity - General Information

The NSBA is proud to present the Breeders Championship Futurity! This program is designed to appeal to all pleasure horse breeders, owners, trainers and exhibitors by offering a full slate of classes and paybacks.  The Breeders Championship Futurity offers classes for horses ranging from yearlings to six year olds.  The Breeders Championship Futurity is held each year in conjunction with the NSBA World Championship Show.

CLASSES OFFERED
A variety of classes are offered during the Breeders Championship Futurity.  Nominated horses are eligible to show from their yearling year to their six year old year. Yearlings may show Longe Line in Open, Non Pro and Color divisions as well as Western and Hunter Open and Non Pro according to eligibility.  Western Pleasure is offered for the Open, Intermediate, Limited, Color and Non Pro divisions.  Hunter Under Saddle is offered for the Open, Limited, Color and Non Pro divisions. Trail and Western Riding classes are offered for Open and Non Pro divisions.

The color horse classes are provided for horses registered with an NSBA approved color breeds (APHA, PtHA, ApHC, IBHA, ABRA, PBHA) including breeding stock horses.  Color horses are eligible to show in the Open, Intermediate, Limited and Non Pro divisions of each class.

EXHIBITORS
An exhibitor may show as may horses in as many classes as they are eligible for in each division.  NSBA membership is required for all owners and exhibitors.

PAYBACK OF PURSE
The stallion nominator receives 20%, the foal nominator receives 10%, and the foal owner receives 70% of foal earnings. In the event the foal ownership changes, the original nominator will receive the 10% earnings.  Each year, over $200,000 is paid out during the Breeders Championship Futurity.  The payback schedule for each foal crop year will be paid out as follows (after program expenses):

* Yearlings – 15%
* 2 Year Olds – 25%
* 3 Year Olds – 35%
* 4 Year Olds – 25%

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to participate in the NSBA Breeders Championship Futurity, a horse must be sired by a stallion who was nominated to the Breeders Championship Futurity during its foaling year.

If eligible, horses may be enrolled at any time beginning as weanlings through their four year old year.  Weanling enrollments begin at one time payment of $100 and increase with the age of horse.  The Breeders Championship Futurity also offers a sliding scale for multiple foal enrollments.  Upon completion of a nomination, foal owners will be sent a Certificate of Eligibility.  This certificate will need to be presented in order to show in any Breeders Championship Futurity classes.


BREEDERS CHAMPIONSHIP FUTURITY CERTIFICATE
Once the nomination form has been received and validated and a copy of the horse’s breed registration papers have been forwarded to the NSBA office, a Certificate of Eligibility is mailed to the foal owner.  The Certificate must be current when the horse is shown in the Breeders Championship Futurity.  Any changes in information will need to be forwarded to the NSBA office, along with a Breeders Championship Futurity transfer form.  The fee for changes including those listed below is $25.  Please note that a copy of the horse’s registration papers recording any changes must accompany the Breeders Championship Futurity transfer form.

* Change in ownership
* Change in the name of horse
* Loss of original certificate
* Gelding of a horse that was nominated as a stallion (no charge)

    Beginning January 2012, NSBA will be approving Showmanship, Horsemanship, Equitation and Equitation Over Fences classes as well as Showmanship, Horsemanship and Equitation classes for independent Riders With Disabilities exhibitors!  These classes will also pay out on Stallion Incentive Fund Licenses as well as Smart Points!

    Please request that your local show management add these classes to their horse shows for the coming year!

  • 2012 Stallion Incentive Fund Breedings Are Available

Stallion owners are encouraged to participate in this program by donating one breeding to be sold to NSBA members.  Mare owners may purchase the breeding for one half of the advertised stud fee plus a $100 administrative fee.  Breedings to top AQHA/APHA/ApHC stallions in the nation are available.     The NSBA Board of Directors has revised the rule regarding leased horses.  The new rule reads as follows:

    39c. Leased horses are eligible to show in NSBA non-pro, open and youth events.

    NSBA will accept leases that are recorded and approved with their appropriate breed registry. All appropriate lease paperwork from the breed registry must be received in the NSBA office prior to competition. A $30 filing fee is due with the lease ...
