The weather was hot and the competition was too as exhibitors competed for money at the inaugural Summer Breakout All Breed NSBA Show, held June 22-24 at C Bar C Expo Center at Cloverdale, Indiana.

The show was hosted by Greg Wheat and Tara Landon, and featured $14,500 in added money classes as well as jackpotted purses in all other events throughout the weekend. “I think it is a great concept,” noted trainer Karen Hornick. “It’s great to be able to come to a horse show and win money, which we don’t get to do at a weekend Quarter Horse show.”

Judging the Summer Breakout Show were Shane Young and Danielle Burnight.

Tim Zuidema and ‘Shock Top’ Win Clint Collingsworth Memorial Trophy

In a class that awarded a memorial traveling trophy in memory of the late Clint Collingsworth, Tim Zuidema showed Best Brew At The Bar to the win for Sarah Nimigan in the Three Year Old Intermediate Open Western Pleasure, earning $1,186.88.

“We’ve had him since December,” Tim said of the stallion. “He is by The Best Minute and out of Prissy Legs, and we call him Shock Top after the brand of beer. He’s so pretty and very soft, super good minded and really smart.

“We’re working on the Three Year Old Open, Intermediate and Non-Pro classes this year, but we are really looking forward to seeing him go on and do other things too.”

Three Champions Named in Three Year Old and Older Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class

The most popular class of the Summer Breakout show proved to be the Three Year Old and Older Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot class. The class saw champions named in three divisions.

Katy Jo Zuidema showed Hitt The Jackpot to another big win when the duo earned the Open division win in the class. It was just the second time for her to show the gelding, who tied to win the Maiden Western Pleasure slot class at the Madness a month ago. They earned $2,788.

“He is a really nice horse,” Katy Jo said. “I was sad when the class ended because he’s fun to ride. It’s an incredible feeling to have a such a nice horse to ride.” Hitt The Jackpot is owned by Candace Edgerton.

Lauren Louw piloted Best Az Yet to win the Limited division of the class for owner Annette Snowden, earning $1,000 for the first place finish. “We got her from Blake Britton and Becca Hurst last year at the Congress,” Lauren said.

“She’s very sweet and never wants to be bad. She’s beautiful to look at and happy all the time. She just points that front toe and goes. She makes it fun to show.”

The three year old mare is by RL Best Of Sudden and out of a full sister to Vital Signs Are Good. The duo would also win the $500 Added NSBA Three Year Old Limited Open Western Pleasure, earning $337.50.

Amanda Ringer showed Bleu Ivy for owner Cathrin Gutmann to win the Intermediate division, earning a $1,000 pay check. “She was really good,” Amanda said of the mare. “Our last ride was the best ride. This is just her third show.

"She’s really a fun horse. It’s been fun to work with her and promote her, since she came over from Europe for Cathrin to show here. Rusty and Katie Green have really helped me tremendously with her. We have a great team.”

Rounding out the overall placings in the Open division of the class were second – The Dark Impulse, Gil Galyean for Joanie Zelnio, $2,091; third – Slow Ya Roll, Wade Black for Cheryl Mullikin, $1,394; and Florida Georgia Line, Rusty Green for Ruth Rowe, $697.

“She was really good today,” Shannon noted. “She went around happy and did her job. She doesn’t get nervous in a big pen like we had here, and we had a lot of room to work.”

“Shannon has done all the work on her, and I can’t think her enough,” added Debby. “I don’t get to ride as much, so they do a great job preparing them for me. I had always liked her mother, whom Hillary Roberts showed, and I always loved Lazy Loper, so when they had this cross, I bought her. She reminds me a lot of her mother. I was really excited to get these wins.”
