The Madness AQHA and NSBA circuit is well underway at the World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio. With record-breaking entries showing to the judges between the Pre-Madness over the weekend and The Madness classes beginning on Tuesday, horses and exhibitors as well as show management have been keeping busy.

Sponsored annually by the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association, The Madness was happy to return to its May dates after being delayed last spring by COVID-19. The 2020 show was held in July.

Reliable Remington Wins Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle

Haley Hartman showed her eight year old gelding, Al Fool Ya, known as Remington, to win the NSBA All Age Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle. The duo showed to two firsts and a second on the cards of Terry Cross, Michael Edwards and Holly Hover.

“He felt really good out there today,” Haley said. “He is so fun to show. He knows the minute he goes into the show pen, because his ears go up and he brings himself up and just shows.”

Haley has had the gelding for five years and shows under the guidance of Dawn Baker. “I feel like by now we really know each other,” she said. “He’s at a fun age and is just so dependable.”

The reserve champions in the class were Willy Has Potential and Michelle Bauer, with third place going to Im Willy Good Today and Erin Shapiro Boatwright.

Weekend Winners From Pre-Madness

Two NSBA champions were named during the Pre-Madness classes over the weekend. Winning the $1,000 Added NSBA Three Year Old Hunter Under Saddle were Its Game On, shown by Jamie English for Tali Terlizzi. The trio earned $625.50 for the win. Dawn Baker and Only Ride The Best, showing for Caroline Cavallo, were reserve, earning $486.50.

In the NSBA $1,500 Added Three Year Old Limited Rider Open Western Pleasure, Garrett Streit added to his win list with Made To Ride, showing for Jud and Gail Heflin. They earned $907.80 for first place. Garrett and Made To Ride were coming off their first futurity win at the A Sudden Impulse Futurity, where they also won the Three Year Old Limited Open Western Pleasure.

Cody Conover and Hot Without A Doubt, showing for owner Caitlin Miller, and Robert Fowler and KM You Make It Easy, showing for Dennis and Debbie Martin, tied for second and third, with each earning $627.45.

The Madness continues through Sunday, May 16. For additional information, please visit anequineproduction.com or view the Show Tracker app for updates.
