Horses qualify to compete through participation in Dual-Approved or Special Event Open, Amateur and Youth classes at alliance horse shows. Qualifying horses participate in an approved class a minimum of five times with the qualifying period for the 2026 NSBA World Championship Show during the period of May 1, 2025 through April 30, 2026.
The NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity provides a direct economic impact of $7.5 million to the city of Tulsa, attracting nearly 8,000 entries each year. In addition to the world championship and Breeders Championship Futurity competition, the event also hosts Show Your Colors, an NSBA, AQHA and APHA show. The NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity annually provides more than $1.5 million in cash and prizes to exhibitors and horse owners.
NSBA began its Breeders Championship Futurity in 2001, and added the World Championship Show in 2006. Since its inception, the Breeders Championship Futurity has awarded more than $9 million to NSBA members. In addition to its world and futurity classes, NSBA honors the service of military veterans with Heroes On Horses classes, as well as classes for Equestrians With Disabilities, and its CINCH Horsemanship Invitational competition for Non-Pro exhibitors.
Other special events include the NSBA Honors Banquet, during which the Horse of the Year, Hall of Fame, Quarter Million Dollar Club Riders, Jack Benson Service Award and scholarship recipients are honored; the Cowgirls ROC (Reaching Out into the Community) luncheon; the NSBYA Youth Team Tournament; and the NSBA Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale.
