Saturday, April 20, saw the final added money classes of the 2024 Spring Breakout Show in Lexington, Virginia.
Shannon And Maple Win Three Year Old Non-Pro
In the Western Pleasure pen, Shannon Fisher showed Thatwhatbiggirlsdo to two firsts, a second and a third to win the NSBA Three Year Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure. “We call her Maple,” Shannon said. “When she was born, she had a maple leaf shaped star on her head. She’s a full sister to Dont Skip Foxy and she’s by VS Code Blue.
“That’s what big girls do is a saying I had that kind of stuck, and I thought it would be a good name for a horse. This is her second horse show, and just the second time she’s ever been off the farm. We bred and raised her. We lost her momma and this is the last baby we got out of her. She was born the day before we came to this horse show three years ago.
“I like everything about her. She’s got a great rear end, a great front end, and her mind is phenomenal. She wasn’t even off the farm until two weeks ago. I just love her. Everybody knows I love my Dont Skip Zips, I probably have more of them than anybody in the country, so she fits my bill. This was the first time I’ve shown a bosal horse in about ten years.”
It wasn’t even in the original plans for the Fishers to have Shannon show in the Non-Pro. Alan had entered Maple in the Virginia Maiden. “Yesterday I was riding her around and Shannon had this grin on her face, and I asked her what was up,” Alan explained. “She said ‘can I show her in the Non-Pro?’ so we did. Shannon had only ridden her like four times. But now we’re going to keep on going in the Three Year Old Open and Non-Pro classes. She wants to be a show horse.”
Maple and Shannon's Non-Pro win topped Alan's first place in the Limited Rider bonus in the Virginia Maiden class on Friday night.
Kiley and Richard Win The Maturity
In the NSBA Maturity Non-Pro Western Pleasure, Kiley Wiseman and Start Ur Engines sat at the top of the class after earning two firsts, and two seconds in the class. “I’ve had Richard for about two years now,” Kiley said. “He’s six years old this year, so he’s a senior horse now.
“He’s been a good boy and I’m very happy with him. Today, he really stayed with me. He has a tendency to spook at things sometimes, so I was really happy that he stayed with me every step and was nice and calm. He was a really good boy today and I’m really proud of him. Blake and Becca Britton had him prepared amazingly, and I can’t thank them enough for everything they do for us.
“This horse show, the Spring Breakout, is awesome. We love coming here. The classes pay out great and we love how they give back to us. We can’t wait to come back next year.”
The final added money class of the 2024 Spring Breakout was the Four and Five Year Old Ranch Derby. Robert Johnson showed Iscream For Icecreme to win the class for owner Phebe Fleet, earning $760.00
