The National Snaffle Bit announced the 2017 payout for Smart Points, their youth scholarship program. Each point earned by enrolled youth riding an NSBA Stallion Incentive Fund (SIF) Licensed horse will earn $26.56 for points earned in 2017. Over $40,000 was earned by Smart Point enrollees in 2017 with the highest graduate earning $2,553.

The program is funded through sanction fees collected from all youth classes during the calendar year. Youth must be riding a horse licensed through the NSBA SIF Licensing program, be current members and be enrolled in the Smart Points program.

At the close of each show year, youth enrolled in Smart Points receive a letter indicating the total points they have earned to date through their enrollment period. When youth graduate out of the program in their 19th year, money earned by the child through Smart Points is disbursed.

NSBA rewards youth members for their participation in NSBA programs and encourages them to become lifelong learners through the Smart Points program. Youth riders may apply by paying a one-time fee of $25 and completing the enrollment form. Enrollment can occur at any time throughout the year and earnings begin accruing from that date.

NSBA Smart Points also sponsors the National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. This sponsorship allows the youth to enter and earn NSBA points towards the Smart Points program as well as year-end awards.
