Carrie Oakley has been named the 2023 recipient of the National Snaffle Bit Association’s Jack Benson Award.

A member of NSBA since the association's inception, Carrie has been a horse owner, breeder and active exhibitor in the industry for many years. In addition, she has owned two NSBA Hall of Fame horses, Hotrodders Jet Set and Delea Siemon. An NSBA and AQHA champion who is passionate about the pleasure horse industry, Carrie came through the ranks as a Youth, Amateur and Non-Pro exhibitor and passed her passion for horses along to her daughter, Courtney, who also competes in Amateur and Non-Pro events.

A professional inside and out of the arena, this Texan is also a real estate agent and equine insurance representative and has won many awards honoring her achievements in and outside the horse industry. She has actively participated in United Way, Chamber of Commerce fundraisers and is involved in missionary work through her church. "I am driven to succeed at my personal and business endeavors," she said. Carrie and her husband Troy reside in Pilot Point, Texas.

Named after the late NSBA member Jack Benson, the award is presented to an individual who unselfishly gives of his or her time to promote NSBA and its mission, and create greater interest in the pleasure horse industry. The award has been presented annually since 1989.

Established in 1983, the National Snaffle Bit Association has expanded from its roots in the Western Pleasure discipline to recognize various disciplines and eight breed associations in competition. NSBA’s mission is to grow the show horse community through various equine programs and events where every activity benefits horses, breeders, owners and exhibitors alike.

National Snaffle Bit Association has more than 20,000 active members and more than 44,000 registered horses across its eight alliance breed organizations. In 2021, NSBA members earned more than $13.6 million in monetary awards at NSBA-sanctioned horse shows. The association sanctioned nearly 600 horse show events and close to 200,000 horse show entries in 2022.
